About this site
“when fleeting moments find permanence ™”
Welcome to Proteus Photography.
What does this site reveal? These galleries are a quiet corner of the web where I share what brings me immense joy: capturing a sliver of the natural world and sharing it as widely as possible.
Take your time exploring these digital galleries. Each image has been carefully selected and exhibited to tell a story—a frozen moment of quiet contemplation, dynamic movement, or simply the extraordinary beauty hidden in plain sight. My hope is that as you explore, you find your own connection to these moments.
Why the name Proteus? In Greek mythology, Proteus was versatile, fluid, and ever-changing—much like the natural world I strive to capture. Proteus Photography reflects a love for nature’s infinite diversity and raw emotion. (It also sounds pleasantly learned, which comes in handy when I'm ankle-deep in mud waiting for a bird to glance my way.
Discover the raw, wild symphony.
Why wildlife? Because nature reminds us of our shared place in a grander story. Out in the field, photography is an exercise in deep patience: standing motionless, pretending to be a tree, and hoping the wildlife doesn't notice I'm entirely out of my element.
How does Art & Mathematics mix? Art and mathematics might feel like two separate worlds, but the harmony captured through my lens is deeply rooted in numbers. Through the lens of Computational Aesthetics, we can explore how the underlying principles of balance, geometry, and visual harmony are not just felt—they can be thoughtfully understood and composed. (You can read more about this approach on my blog.)
Want to keep a piece of the wild with you? If a particular photograph resonates with you, I would love to help you bring it into your everyday space. Whether you are looking for a fine-art print for your wall, a custom calendar, or a keepsake gift, feel free to reach out.
I also love connecting in person and online—whether for an informal chat about photography, a guest presentation, or a Q&A session on nature and computational art.
Drop me a note, say hello, and let me know what caught your eye.
Warmest wishes, Ian
